Free Flash Video Player

Posted under Tools, Uncategorized

I recently invested in an information product that used videos as part of its teaching guide. The problem was I couldn’t get any of the videos to work. I reinstalled Adobe Flash. I tried to view in Explorer instead of FireFox. I did everything the product developer suggested, but still no video. Finally he told me to try the Wimpy Desktop FLV player. Since it’s free, I thought I’d give it one more try. To my amazement it worked.

It did take me a couple of tries to get the videos to play. I had to drag the video flash file to the Wimpy icon (not to an open Wimply Player). At that point the player opened with the video. The videos played without any glitches and the picture was clear.

If you need a new flash player, try out the Wimpy Desktop FLV player. Its free and available for Windows and Mac.

Is your favorite show a rerun this week?

Posted under Entertainment, Tools

When I was growing up, it seemed like t.v. shows ran all new episodes from September to May. These days, however, it seems like you can’t go an month without having a rerun. I’m a Law and Order SVU fan and for a couple weeks in a row, in February and March there were reruns…and its only March? There should be 3 more months of new shows!

If you’re like me and get upset when you sit down to watch your favorite show only to discover you just saw it a few weeks back, you can now use Rerun Check to find out if your show will be a new episode or a rerun. You can even request an email or subscribe to the RSS fees to you can be notified whenever a new episode is going to run.

Check it out at RerunCheck.com

Spelling Help with ObjectGraph.com

Posted under Business Related, Free Resources, Home and Family Related, Resources, Tools

Thank goodness for spell-check because I’m a terrible speller and prone to typos. I have a dictionary at my desk, but when I’m working online, its much easier to use online resources. There are many sites that provide dictionary assistance, but I like ObjectGraph because its intuitive. As you start typing letter into the box, it lists the word possibilities.  The site is easy and free to use. Visit ObjectGraph.com to test it yourself.

Better Living Through Text (SMS)

Posted under Business Related, Hassle Free, Home and Family Related, Productivity, Time Management

TextThe other day I posted how you can set up your Google Calendar to send and receive text (SMS) messages to your cell phone. At the end of the post I indicated that I was still looking for a to-do program that would also allow me to send text messages. And it would be awesome if it integrated with iGoogle and Google Calendar. I still haven’t found the ideal to-do system that allows texting, but I’ve found a handful of other great resources that can help you be more productive through the use of text messaging.

Gubb.net: I’m testing Gubb right now as it’s the only to-do program that I’ve found so far that allows me to text to-dos to my lists. Gubb is free and easy to use. You can create multiple lists and share them with others which is ideal if virtual workers are collaborating. Each list is given its own email which can be used to email or text items to your list or you can pick up the list via your phone by texting “G” or “Get” to your Gubb List. There isn’t a plug-in for Google aps, but you can use the email alert option in Google Calendar to post items to your Gubb list. You just need to forward the alert to your Gubb email.

Remember The Milk: I have been using RTM because it integrates with iGoogle and Google Calendar. While it will text your to-dos to your phone, so far there is no way to text new items to your RTM list. To add to the list while on the road you need to use the mobile version of RTM to log in and add it to your list.

Call Wave: This program will convert your voicemail to text. It doesn’t give you the exact transcription of the voice mail, but you’re able to get the basics of message. Its not free but is have a variety of plans that range from $14.95 to $49.95 per month.

Email by text: Carriers provide SMS delivery of email. Your provider should be able to let you know how to set up your email to forward to selected items to your phone.
